Treatment options for pharyngitis are heavily dependant on the cause of the infection. Causes of pharyngitis are categorized in four classes (bacterial, viral, fungal, and other causes). Only your doctor can make a proper diagnosis of the cause responsible for your condition.
If your pharnyngitis is caused by bacteria, your physician may prescribe antibiotics. Pharyngitis that is caused by virus is generally incurable. If a virus is the cause for your condition, you must try to have a balanced diet, engage in healthy exercise programs, and gargle if you can.
You should also avoid any irritant that may affect your throat, such as cold air, cigarette smoke, alcohol, hot and spicy foods etc. Gargling several times a day may help relieve the discomfort in your throat, lozenges may also help.
