Commonly known as ENT physicians, otolaryngologists are health practitioners trained in the medical and surgical treatment of the ear, nose, and throat diseases or disorders. Today they're obliged to even treat all ENT related structures of the head and the neck.
They specialize in diagnosis and management of the diseases of the sinuses, mouth, throat, oral cavity, the structures of the neck and face as well as the otology system. They can also be trusted in treating other basic health problems in both children and adults.
To become a qualified otolaryngologist, you must have spent about 13 to 15 years of college or university study on the anatomy, biochemistry, pharmacology, physiology, neurology, pathology and bacteriology of all the organs and structures in the head and neck region.
Also known as head and neck surgeons, otolaryngologists posses expertise in various surgeries. They can perform various surgeries on tumors and other growths that affect or influence ear, nose or throat infections. They can perform polypectomy for the removal of nasal polyps, tonsillectomy adenoidectomy, and other related surgeries.
